“Diosa Maria inspires us to find the essence of fashion and beauty.”
B. Maria – Founder
Our brand name Diosa Maria was inspired by B. Maria’s 4th generational name “Maria”. Her great, great grandmother, Maria Josefa Garcia Menéndez was born in San Román, Spain. After the passing of her parents, Maria (8) and her sister Amalia Garcia Menéndez (1), in accordance to customs, a family council was formed by relatives and the girls were moved to New York City to live with their uncle. The sisters traveled yearly from America to Spain to maintain a relationship with the remaining family in their home grounds.
Maria had a passion for lace crocheting and embroidery. She loved to cook and always grew a garden. In the summer with her granddaughters, she picked gooseberries and currants to make jelly and blueberries to make pies. Maria had passions that were passed down for generations.
In the previous years, Her mother, Amalia Menéndez Suarez, born in San Román, Spain, was nothing more than a polite village girl. Maria’s father, Felix Garcia Lopez, born in San Román, Spain, became an educated businessman. He had successfully created a bank and had major Tobacco investments in Cuba.
Diosa Maria honors her ancestors and is proud to represent the Spanish heritage from where they came from.
The beautiful piece shown was handmade by Maria Josefa Garcia Menéndez.
